Castle Valley is a Dark Sky Community

sign 60%In 1991 the town of Castle Valley passed its first Outdoor Lighting Ordinance, very ahead of its time in dark-sky-friendly principles. Recent Town surveys (conducted every five years) have shown consistently high support for dark skies. Consequently, a dedicated local group spent several years writing a new Dark Sky Lighting Ordinance and navigating the grueling application process for official Dark Sky certification. For more information about DarkSky International see https://darksky.org/

In December 2023, the Town of Castle Valley joined Grand County, Moab, Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park, Torrey, Utah, and other nearby places in successful certification by DarkSky International.

[Talk about what we do, building permit process, programs for local residents—not pushing tourism—benefits for wildlife, migratory birds, insects, bats and even plant life, etc. Not annoying neighbors.]
